Poulenc is one of the greatest composers classical music I've heard. He was born in 1899, Paris. He also wrote poetry, and one of his most famous works nowadays is the Rapsodie Nègre which called the attention of the well known composer, Stravinksy. In this composition, I would say the Prelude and the Pastoral are my favorites. He was one of the publicly known homosexual composers, and he died in 1963. Gloria is a famous work of his, but I love Melancolie: The set was ready. They said I should start dancing. I closed my eyes and tried to concentrate (that was a bad idea though). Move my feet, my head and hands. Suddenly it all started: sound. I was already lost in the unknown space that can be created with a series of frequencies turning on the circuits in my brain. The first steps were slow and fearful, but suddenly everything started to disappear. It was just me the waves, time, and space. It's hard to start a story. Which should be the starting line of a series of experiences? How can I decide that a dance is actually the first step into a part of my life that I consider to be the one that has to be documented? Maybe we all start dancing, even though it's not following that traditional beat... since our very first moment of consciousness there are heartbeats, cries and liquid. Anyhow, I was dancing. The song ended and suddenly, I was back in the garage with the lights and the projector in front of me. The sounds were different now: voices, laughs and bottles of beer. I stopped dancing the beat of the song and started walking in another rhythm. |
